Laptops in schools click, win support

Maine's first-in-the-nation program that put computers on the laps of students in all 241 public middle schools has received high marks as the first full year of the experiment draws to a close this month.

The program's success is underscored by the fact that state lawmakers facing a projected $1.2 billion budget shortfall at the start of the legislative session made no attempt to dismantle the project.
